Agritourism

Kevin Gray of Greensboro, will use the award to purchase 700 trees and drip irrigation system to grow his Christmas tree business.

Sandra Vergara will use the award to expand the barn to accommodate agritourism events.

Aquaponics

Doug Bowers will use the grant funds to purchase ten aquaponics units to expand fish production and equipment to reduce environmental stressors from cold, wind and wildlife.

Ben Grimes will scale up his waterfowl enterprise for wholesale market.

Dairy

Robert Stovall of Wadesboro will purchase a commercial butter churn for Brown Creek Creamery.

Olivia Pearson will purchase ice cream equipment for Riverbend Creamery.

Grant Snook will use the award to retrofit a building into a 2-stall stanchion milking parlor and cheese processing room.

Grains, Hemp and Row Crops

Tim Moser from Ashe County will use the award to renovate the lower floor of the 50’x36′ barn used for a dual purpose curing barn and cloning area for hemp.

Derrell Merritt of Surry, will use the award to automate their deer corn bagging system.

Todd McPhetridge of Franklinton will construct a hemp drying/curing facility.

Keith Marshall of Cedar Grove, will purchase milling, storage and harvesting equipment.

Ryan Whitfield of Hurdle Mills, will purchase a seed cleaner and grain dryer to support his organic operation.

Brett Sears from Fuquary Varina will use the award to build a 90’x118′ peanut drying shelter.

Marshall Lee and Ronald Lee from South Benson, will use the award to expand the sweet potato packing line with a sizer.

Mark Walton from Fuquay Varina will use the award to purchase equipment that will automate his bagging system for corn, beans and oats.

Landscaping plants

Ferrell and Emily Moose of Pittsboro will use the award to build a tobacco float system to propagate native pants to expand their nursery business.

Livestock and Poultry

Ashley Troth, Kathryn Spann and David Krabbe will use the funds to try a new product, a non-chemical method to control parasites which are the main cause of mortality in goats.

Jimmy DeLane Dick from Albemarle will use the grant funds to convert 34 acres of row crops to managed pasturelands for his meat goat herd breeding program.

Kenneth Roberston from Statesville will use the award to purchase mobile handling equipment for de-worming, vaccinations and hoof maintenance for cattle and sheep.

Bryan and Amy Dick of Thomasville will use the award to purchase portable livestock handling equipment.

Evelyn Baker and Amy Walker will use the award to purchase livestock handling equipment.

Wesley Sharp from Stokesdale, will use the funds to improve and expand the feed pad and add two fence-line feeders.

Travis Covington from Mebane, will use the award to subdivide the farm pastures into smaller grazing paddocks and add a water site.

Patrick Johnson from Zebulon will use the award to purchase a sheep and goat feeder.

Andrew Kearney of Snow Hill, will use the grant award to increase the grazing capacity of his cow herd by incorporating rotational grazing. The new system will allow him to introduce more cows and still insure that there is enough grass to support them.

Rodrequis Lisenby of Wadesboro will expand the poultry and egg operation with better housing and refrigeration equipment.

Zachary Lowman will purchase poultry processing equipment to process quail.

Joy Combs Cobb  of McLeansville, will use the grant to purchase an egg mobile chicken tractor and cattle panels, and hog panels to set up rotational grazing and soil improvement.

Value-Added

Jason Roehrig and Shiloh Avery will use the award to build a kitchen for preparing value-added products and reduce loss.

Tracy and holly Campbell of Hickory, NC will purchase a freeze dryer and supplies to reduce loss.

Perry Lowe IV will use the award to purchase a commercial dehydrator to prepare value-added products and reduce loss.

Vegetables, Fruit, Flowers and Nuts

Ben Street of Concord will purchase a caterpillar tunnel to extend the growing season.

Suzanne Ramsey of Mooresville, has a disability that  limits her mobility. She will use the grant to purchase a Gator to help her travel and transport items across the farm.

Heather Altizer from Salisbury will purchase blueberry sorting equipment.

Phyllis Kesling from Monroe, will use the award to convert a sloped area of the farm to small fruit production.

Melinda Roberts from Statesville, will use the award to construct a shed with coolers to enable her fruit, vegetable and flower business to become more efficient and productive.

Autumn Hunter from Kenly will use the award to purchase plastic laying equipment and supplies.

Michael Banner from Winston Salem will use the grant to retrofit a bus to provide transportation for an urban group of farmers and their products.

Mark Anders from Tobaccoville will use the award to make his hydroponic lettuce system more efficient.

Paula Fisher from Walnut Cove will use the award to build a walk-in cooler to hold wholesale flowers.

Matt Solomon from Prospect Hill, will use the award to renovate a shed into a post-processing infrastructure.

Kendrick Ransome from Pinetops will use the grant funds to purchase a tractor.

Samuel Shaw from Raleigh will construction a walk-in cooler to hold lettuce, greens and other produce.

Kenneth Daniel from Creedmoor will purchase five towers with shelters to grow specialty crops year round.

Rob Fleming from Halifax will use the award to purchase a Stevia plant bedder.

Sindy Fitzgerald from Williamson, will use the award to upgrade their pecan processing facility to guarantee a sanitary production so she can become part of the the Got 2 Be NC program.

Freddy and Kesha Howell from Zebulon will install an energy efficient biomass heating system for greenhouse tomato production.

Ashley Parker of Hurdle Mills, will add a vegetable packing area and cooler to the workshop.

Mark Wellons will use the grant funds to purchase a plastic mulch layer.

Oak Grove, Karen Community Farm in Orange County will use the grant funds to expand a community farm where Burmese refugee farmers can grow food for themselves and for market.

Clayton Hinnant from Kenly, will use the award to purchase a pecan sheller and cracker to reduce costs and increase profits from his pecan orchard.

Technology

Dorsey Kordick will the use the grant funds to purchase an on-site weather station to more accurately time spray applications on her fruit orchard

Vineyard

Kaitie von Cosmos from Moravian Falls will use the award to purchase sheep and electric fence to allow grazing along vineyard paths.

Community grants are projects that will benefit 3 or more farms.

Guilford County Cattlemen’s Association will purchase cattle handling equipment for beginning livestock producers to rent.

Wilkes County Soil and Water will use the award to purchase a Plotmaster hunter drill to be rented to farmers.

Stokes County Extension will use the award to plastic-culture equipment that will be available to smalls for rent.

Alleghany Cattlemen”s Association will use the award to purchase portable cattle handling equipment that will be available to rent for small farms and new livestock operations.

NC Small Farm Association will use the award to purchase a stock trailer for members with small livestock herds so they can move the livestock safely.

Nash County Farmers Market will use the grant to purchase a three door refrigerator to house CSA boxes.

Wilson County Livestock Association will use the award to purchase portable cattle handling equipment new or small livestock operations.

Sampson County Extension will use the grant funds to help pay the initial cost to setup the Visit NC Farms App in Sampson County.

The Hempville in Elon, will use the award to purchase equipment for processing hemp fiber.
