Dear Farming Community and Dear Horticulture Agents,
Attached is a press release from the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services regarding hurricane disaster relief of $240 Million. Please read the following and the press release carefully.
Farmers only have until next week, Monday, Dec 10, 2018, to get the initial paperwork done. If you had harvest losses to your farm, this may make it easier to stay in business next year!!
Farmer’s do not have to report acreages by December 10 but must begin the process by entering their name and contact information.
The application process takes about 30 min per farm and is available through the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service and the NCDA&CS disaster hotline:
866-6459-403.
Commissioner Troxler has appointed a state-wide, ad-hoc task force to determine the percent of agricultural losses, directly resulting from Hurricane Florence and Tropical Storm Michael, in each county.
The task force will consist of county representatives of NRCS, Soil & Water, Regional Agronomists, N.C. Cooperative Extension, FSA, and NC Forestry. The county committees will forward their report to the state task force to be finalized, with a due date of December 21. NC Forest Service Rangers will be responsible for convening the county task force and will be calling you in the next few days to solicit Extension’s participation. It is important that we are represented by agents/CED’s who have experience conducting crop damage assessments. If you or an agent need training in this area, please contact Dr. Mike Yoder for assistance.
Please feel free to contact me any time,
Mark
