Cooperating Farmer: Poole Farms
Location: One mile west of Burbage Road on the Peoples Road, near Yeatesville
Soil Type: Portsmouth Loam, Tomotley Fine Sandy Loam
Planter/Row Width: Seed drill, 7 inch spacing
Plant Population: The seed drill was calibrated to plant 130 lbs of seed per acre (based on a seed count of 13,500 seed/lb). It is important to note that the seed count varies by variety, and it was not feasible to adjust the drill to compensate for these differences.
The purpose of this test was to compare wheat varieties recommended for eastern NC wheat production. The test was planted on November 11th 2016, and harvested on June 13th, 2017. Production practices applied to this plot were typical of those used in our area to maximize yield and profit.
This test was implemented with three replications. A statistical analysis of the yield data indicated that varieties with yields within 5.5 bu/acre of each other were not significantly different from one another.
